Work Place Inquiries

I do not have a particularly exciting job but, on occassion, i get some phone calls or emails that peak my interest. here are two samples that may be of interest to MW7.

first question:

I’m asking you because of your vast knowledge of historic bars…. Have you ever heard of a urinal constructed along the perimeter of a bar? This person means the actual bar and back bar so the patrons don’t have to leave their prime seats.

Answer: Yes, i have heard of this ultimate bar convenience but have never seen nor used a bar urinal installation. i cannot wait until i do though! i have tried to google and go into every old bar i see but i see have not found any documentation. please help me find a bar urinal!

second question:

can you help me restore the town pound in my hometown. i was told by my grandfather that the town pound was used to as an outdoor drunk tank in years past. is this true?

Answer: As i did not know anything about town pound's (see picture above), i had to investigate. turns out, a town pound dates back to early New England. it is an open air enclosure constructed of dry laid stone walls. they usually have a wooden gate. they were used in the 1600-800's to hold animals that were illegally wandering around loose. My guess is that drinking buddies would occassionally dump passed-out friends in the town pound to sleep off a Barfly type binge with the farm animals. here is a link to town pounds:

there is enough loose stone around the Farm to build a MW7 Town Pound. Unfortunately, i may end up in the pound.
